I saw the fight. Wow what an amazing fight.. i was on the edge of my seat the entire fight. *SPOILERS ARE HERE* (IF you don't want anything spoiled stop reading now) I know some people think its a controversial win. But I'd love to discuss tactics for this fight.. I thought GSP would take hendricks down and roll with hendricks... but he didn't.. he actually out boxed hendricks... sure gsp didn't have the power hendricks did.. and sure there wasn't much damage done. but gsp was connecting a lot more often then hendricks. which i believe won the fight for gsp. i was also surprised that hendricks was taking gsp down. I would have thought hendricks would have wanted to remain standing. good fight.. good result.. and i believe good judging.

I think GSP got reluctant with his takedowns in the first when he went for one and Johny just kept elbowing him in the head. I think that really fucked up his game plan and made him switch on the fly. I think he did okay at that, and fought through some stuff like a champ. But for me, in the end, it's a fight, and one guy was beat up, rocked, bruised, stitched, and the other wasn't. At some level, that should count for something.
In terms of scoring, I don't pay attention to my own scoring when I watch, but I know the first round was the close one for a lot of people, but I felt Hendricks won it by messing GSP up and rocking him a couple times (like the elbows). I think he slowed a bit later, but I would need to re-watch to get a score in mind. But being that I want Canadians to win, I remember feeling disappointed when the fight closed, so I felt GSP had lost.
As you said though, he is good at getting lots of small strikes in, and mixing things up in a good way. There is definitely merit to that in a scoring/judging sport. The rematch will be interesting. GSP has been going through some shit, and Hendricks said he hit with about 70% power, so I am kind of interested in how the rematch pans out.

i believe in any way you look at the fight... it was close. i'm not sure if there will be a re-match.. gsp has to go away for awhile... it may eventually be a complete retirement.. bring on the interim title..

Yes, it was a pretty close fight worthy of a rematch. Dana has said he talked to GSP and expects it to be no where as long/bad a departure as it seemed, and is confident the rematch will happen sooner, rather than later.

Yeah, exactly. Dana knows, so hopefully his timeline is accurate, but if GSP is out, interim would be interesting, as its a tight division now.
