Fight One: Khalil Rountree knocks out Saki in a minute and a half... dont care about this fight to figure out what their names are, but quick and easy knockout.
Fight Two: Pettis vs. Chiesa was a pretty good fight. First round Chiesa was winning early and Pettis started waking up towards the end. In the second round Pettis dropped Chiesa and submitted him with a triangle armbar. Entertaining bout, and I'm glad to see Pettis back in the win columm.
Fight Three: Mike Perry vs. Paul Felder. Favorite fight so far. Very back and forth in the first round. Both were bloodied up, but Perry won a split decision and Felder fought the third round with a broken arm.
Fight Four: Ngannou vs. Lewis was soooooooooooo boring. They were not engaging at all until the third round. Ngannou has 6 strikes landed after two rounds and Lewis has 9. Joe Rogan: "That was the most boring heavyweight fight I've ever seen." 33 total strikes landed. 22 from Lewis and 11 from Ngannou. Lewis gets a unanimous decision.
Main Event: Holy fuck... Miocic was doing pretty well, both were landing solid punches and Cormier just knocked out Stipe. Holy shit. Another double champ. Oh look he's calling out Brock Lesnar. Oh look Lesnar is in the Octagon. Oh look they're pushing each other. Oh look they'll probably fight now.

1) The Ngannou fight is exactly why I don;t let any flash in the pan fighter on this site. Prove your worth and longevity, then we'll talk ManMMA induction.
2) Are you sure it was 33 strikes landed and not thrown? It felt like thrown. And even then, that feels like an exaggeration. I only somewhat blame Lewis though, since if he was having back spasms, what can the guy to do? It's a dumb fight to pull out of on no notice, when you are fighting the #1 ranked guy. Plus, if he already pulled out from back problems before, UFC would likely never give him a real fight again.
3) Stipe-Cormier is why I watch MMA. That was good stuff. I dug it.
4) I like that people booed Lesnar and cheered DC.
5) Lesnar-Cormier is why UFC is sports-entertainment like the WWE and not a real sport, like the NHL/NFL/NBA/MLB. Title shots should be won, not provoked.

For me, this card went from a complete disaster to iconic.
I am not going to debate it being a sport, it is a sport, but god damn, when you have a guy like DC who is also great on the mic, winning the biggest fight of his career, one year after crying in the octagon after a KO against a guy who cheated on roids, and then you move UP to fighter BIGGER GUYS and WIN, god damn, I love it. It's almost a storybook ending.
But then, as Justin said with the WWE-style entertainment, there's another villain waiting in the wings.
Brock Lesnar looked so excited to rush in there, surprised DC with a shove, and then DC retaliates with some great trash talking. It fuels the sale of that fight. Everyone wants it. Even if it isn't deserved, DC is nearing retirement, Lesnar is semi-retired basically, who doesn't want a final legend fight? After spending years of my life hoping we would get GSP and Silva, just give me this fucking fight.
I also loved that Lesnar came out and called Ngannou a piece of shit and called out that fight for being horrible. I know he was getting heat intentionally by calling out Stipe for being shitty, and that was kind of uncalled for. Stipe is a solid MMA fighter, very solid, but people forget just how fucking dominant DC was in Strikeforce, and maybe it's because they never watched it, the same way they don't pay attention to Affliction or Bellator because it's not the UFC.
So many current and past champs were in Strikeforce. It's crazy. I wish people really knew that shit.

Daniel Cormier left Strikeforce undefeated at 11-0. Won their HW Grand Prix, and then came to the UFC, beat Mir and Nelson and then dropped down to LHW because he didn't want to fight his best friend and training partner, Cain Velasquez. Literally, their fight teams decided "let's have 2 belts".
And then the Jon Jones fiasco happens.
Daniel Cormier's career is incredible. The dude has done it all, and the only blemish is a piece of shit fighter who fucking cheated at every turn, likely throughout his career, and it wasn't until USADA finally started cracking down on these fuckers that their careers start to be put in jeopardy for sports enhancement drugs.
Fuck Vitor, fuck Jones, DC is a two-time champ in the strongest divisions in the sport.
And he's doing it clean at 39.
DC is a true legend. No matter what happens with the eventual fight with Lesnar, DC will and should go down as the best LWH and HW of all time.

Despite everything Jon Jones has done, it's still hard for me to look and say anyone is a better fighter than him. He was just so God damned talented and I want to see him clean up and get back in the octagon for good.

He is a tall, lanky dude with great agility and the ability to lose to Matt Hamill by murdering his face with 12-6 elbows annnnd 2. he was on PEDs for his entire fucking career. You know who else was dominant on PEDs? Lance Armstrong. Barry Bonds. You know who wasn't? GSP. DC. 99.9% of hockey players. Jon Jones is an emotional leech, drug addict, ped cheater, and fucked fans and DC out of having a clean record. DC now has asterisks on his record because Jon Jones, instead of owning those losses. we can never know. DC was winning the last fight against Jones, until that kick. And it's an indeterminable factor of how much the ped's might have given jones slightly more quickness, slightly more accuracy, slightly more strength, slightly more reaction, etc. fuck jon jones., dude his a fucking pregnant woman with his car, fled the scene and returned for his money and drugs in his glove compartment and left again without ever checking on her. I dont understand and will never understand how anyone could give any ounce of fucks for jon jones at this point. |
