All About the Grand Prix
What is the Grand Prix?
It's a year-end tournament, like playoffs, essentially determining the "Season Champions". Past winners can be seen here.
Who participates?
The top 8 teams that season.
How are those 8 teams determined?
Every year, after the final card of each season, rankings are determined, and standings are posted. The standings are based on a teams win percentage collected from all their fighters at the end of the season, based on that season's performance.
Who fights?
One Lightweight, One Middleweight, One Heavyweight, One Woman, and One open weight fighter from each of the 8 teams competes for their team in the tournament. The open weight fighter can be any male fighter from your team.
How are the participants determined?
Each team chooses who represents them at the Grand Prix if they qualify.
How are the match-ups determined?
Prior to Season 22, matchups were based on traditional "1st place vs. 8th place, 2nd place vs. 7th place" etc. Starting at the season 22 Grand Prix, team match-ups are chosen by preference lists. The 1st place team has first choice of who they wanted to face in the first round out of the teams ranked 2-8th, then second place gets their choice (if they were not chosen by the 1st place team), etc. If a team does not submit a list, the next highest ranked team got their selection, and so on. Round 2 is still determined by regular season standings though.
Are there any fighters that can NOT participate in the Grand Prix?
Yes. Champions (excluding the SuperFight champ), injured fighters, and fighters currently in training camps. Established number 1 contenders can participate, but run the risk of possibly losing their #1 contender status (i.e. if injured).
What if a team doesn't have a fighter at one or more weight classes?
- Before Grand Prix Starts
If they have an eligible fighter who can qualify for that weight class (by moving up or down in weight class), that person can fill that spot. Reminder, the fighter must have fought at least one professional fight in real life at that weight class to qualify. If a team is unable to fill a weightclass, they can still compete, but will forfeit any and all fights in that weight class.
- After Grand Prix starts
If an injury causes a team to not be able to fill a weight class, the team will continue in the tournament with their replacement filling in. If there is no replacement, any fight in that weight class will be forfeited.
How does it work from there?
Each round, your 5 fighter fight another teams 5 fighters. The team with the most wins in those 5 fights advances to the next round. If a round ends in a draw, a rematch is held with the fighters that fought to the draw later that night after a brief rest period, allowing both fighters to fight each other again, relatively refreshed.
What does a team get for winning the Grand Prix?
Your name in that sexy history table I posted above. And 3 points. But the table is cooler.
Neat.
That's not a question, but I don't disagree.
