I scored it 49-46 Hendricks. Rounds 1 to 4 Hendricks, Round 5 GSP but like barely. Because somehow failing on securing submission attempts makes you a champion.

well I'm sorry but I really feel that in that fight it was all about the technical aspect of judging MMA.. GSP was the better striker connecting with more strikes. GSP was the aggressior for the entire fight. Johnny hendricks did more damage.. but thats about it. Now Dana White said that fights are all about who does more damage to the other fighter. BUT technically, judging is only really divided into 3 categories Striking, Grappling, and control of the cage. That is what judges are looking for. GSP won the striking and won the control of the cage. Hendricks I think won the grappling. so in my books GSP wins a close fight. When scoring round by round.. Damage could play a tiny role in the minds of the judges if they think man Hendricks had that round cause Hendricks was able to bust GSP up. But other than that. GSP wins. the thing that makes GSP so damn good is he knows how to fight his fight. GSP knows how to influence the judges inside the cage so that the judges have to score the fight for him. GSP is a technical fighter.. not a brawny muscley guy, not a street fighter.. it's that technical aspect to GSP's game that wins him fights. Hendricks did not fight his game he fought GSP's game. and lost. Plain and simple.

Dude, even the President of the fucking UFC came out and instead of praising his champion who sells the organization millions of dollars worth of PPVs, he even stated the judges were wrong. I've watched the fight twice now. The only thing that you can credit GSP with is that he attempted one kimura, that failed, one guillotine, that failed, and landed one round of decent jabs in the third.
That's literally it. The judges are fucking horrendous and I'm embarassed that you think GSP won that fight.

If we wanna focus on what failed, Hendricks tried to KO GSP, that failed. I still gave it to Hendricks, but I think including Dana WHite in anything is silly. Guy clearly makes more money off this fight by rematching it, and best way to do that is build it up as "Hendricks won, we need to do this again", cause then, by default, its practically a trilogy. Plus, -several to Dana for taking a shit on GSP before taking to him to see what his personal problems were. THAT was low as fuck, regardless of who you think won.

I agree with Sandmen. Dana white is crap. He is a greed monster. And immediately after the fight i realized there were several types of people forming.. The people who think damage is the only way to determine who wins a fight (Dana White + Johnny Hendricks fans). Which means doctors should be the judges. And the people who understand how the scoring system currently works. If Dana White feels it's crap to judge a fight that way he should work with the nevada sports commission and re-arrange the rules. So that you fight till someone taps or gets KO'd simple as that.. that way you don't need judges. BUT That would completely change the game.. and i don't think it would change it for the better. I am willing to listen to people who can recognize that it was a close fight.. i'm not willing to discuss things with people who say Hendricks killed GSP and gsp had no chance of winning that fight. Because they fall into the damage crowd. Damage is not everything in MMA.. infact Damage means nothing unless you KO your opponent. Anyway you slice it.. that was a very close fight.

Close, yes. Though my stance differs a bit from GAP's definitely on the importance of damage. In the end, it's a fight. The goal is to damage.
Someone mentioned adding a simple 1/2 point to round scoring for that "little extra", so for example, damage, or a clear (but not dominant) round win. Cause I think most people agree, any rounds GSP won were closer than any rounds Hendricks won. It's looking at those fights where a guy knocks his opponent down 2-3 times, almost finishes the fight, but the guy is saved by the bell - but the rest of the round was close enough that its not a 10-8 round. So, ya score it 10-9. But lets say the other guy comes back and squeezes out the next round with a couple takedowns, a little bit of ground work, and some cage clinching. Won the round, but didn't even really put his opponent in danger.
I TOTALLY agree that the threat of a finish or a near-finish should be weighted A LOT higher than a clear round win with no finish threat. So GSP wins rounds, and wins them well. He is a technique master. But he is rarely close to finishing people. Condit almost finished GSP, so in that fight, for example, that round with Condit should be weighted more than any of the GSP rounds because (so scored a 10.5 - 9 round, vs. GSP's 10-9 rounds), as I said, in the end, its a fight, and almost finishing it should weigh more than just controlling it better than the other guy.
