Hey, Thought i'd input an idea I had. I realized at this draft that we have options with what to do when our pick is up. Currently we can:
1)Buy a fighter for 2 points 2)Swap a fighter 3)gain a point
But since a draft is supposed to be about gaining new talent to your team I thought it would be in everyones best interest to lower the cost of buying a new fighter to free or 1 point. This is because i realized(but didn't use)that I had a pick where i could gain a point.. then after the draft was done i could buy a fighter for 2 points.. which means because i got a free point really all i'm spending on my new fighter is 1 point. BUT if I purchased my fighter at the draft not only would I have to buy my fighter for 2 points but I would not get draft point. So somewhere i'm missing out on 1 point by buying a fighter at draft. Now I know this affects you all(if you buy a fighter at draft) but personally I think there should be a benefit to obtaining fighter at draft.. since that's the whole point of a draft. If nobody drafts fighters it's not really a draft is it? So I suggest:
1)Buy a fighter for 1 point(or free depending on what is decided) 2)swap a fighter 3)gain a point By doing this it gives a benefit to buying a fighter at draft, it doesn't rip people off of a point, and it makes sense. Let's discuss this now as I knew we would not implement this for the past draft while it was happening or just before it happened. I would like to implement change at the next draft.
DISCUSS NOW!! let me know what you think.

I like the idea of 1 point for a drafted rookie fighter that has never been in the league before. More often than not, when we draft rookies, we're obtaining a fighter that, in The Sandmen's words, aren't ManMMA standard, so why should we be paying full price for a prospect. I understand if you're selecting from the swap list that they'd be 2 point because they've already been tried in the league before. The new talent shouldn't be quite as much IMO; 1 point would be sufficient.

I kind of get what you're saying, as technically you would just wait until the draft is over, acquire two points for the two picks, then spend them to buy a fighter come regular season and it technically cost you nothing.
But I enjoy hearing both sides, so I'd like to hear what the con is to this, if there is one, from Sandman before putting a full opinion forward. Personally, I don't bother with the draft.

Some miscellaneous reasons why the price was set at 2 points:
- I have to create, research, level, customize, and input new fighters into the league. This is easier than it sounds. If you pay a higher price for them, you are more likely to work on them and make it more worth my time. I learned this VERY quickly early on, when picks were free and people had a guy for 2 fights then dropped him (MIKE!).
- The 2 points is to buy a body. That is what you are doing. Adding a body, for the pre-established price of 2 points. Doing so at the draft gives you the added bonus of bringing a brand new fighter into the league on a first come, first serve basis, based on your draft position.
Other info: - from time to time, based on league needs, I make picks cheap or free when the league has needs. I will continue to do this when we can.
- I have considered free add-a-fighters for the bottom-ranked teams, and will continue to consider that.
The Problem: - The problem with doing any of this based on season position is we have 2 tiers of bottom-ranked teams. Phoenix, and Underdogs.
1) Phoenix is a heavy-poster, who has earned a TON of upgrade points. His team is lowly ranked because he has a TON of fighters that bring his team down. He has 4 elite fighters (Franklin, Lesnar, Cruz, D'Alelio) and several high-level fighters (Brown, Davis,Kampmann, etc). Those people would make him a top team. He can sustain, upgrade, and evolve that team into a championship team. So Phoenix doesn't have the NEED for charity. He CHOOSES to have a huge team, which is great. But giving him discounts for being ranked 10th is not fair to someone like Underdogs.
2) Underdogs is a lighter poster. His is a lowly ranked team because he has 1 elite fighter (Cyborg) and 4 high level fighters (Daley, Alves, Fujii, Jackson), and then the rest of his team. So his needs are more legitimate, and he would benefit more from charity-drafts. He does not post enough to be able to build a team of 8+ high-level fighters at this time.
3) Knockouts is in the same boat Underdogs, though I have no idea how he made 9th spot. He has, arguably, no elite fighters, but 3 high level fighters (Overeem, Aldo, Benson). He is not active enough to sustain a larger team, and would also benefit in a productive way from charity picks. He would not need to spend his points to add a new fighter, and could continue upgrading his current high level fighters into elite fighters and have a legit shot at a title.
If we try to solve these problems, they start to get complicated. So, as it sits now, if you can afford a new body on your team, you can afford 2 points. Those who cannot, like Knockouts, have the option to swap out inferior fighters without additional cost.

Point about having the huge team... It goes in peaks and valleys I've been finding cuz it can reap HUGE rewards if they're winning, but when they're losing, it's the polar opposite. So one season I could be in the top 5 and the next I could be in the bottom 5. It all depends on how the season goes and who my lower tier fighter end up facing over the course of a season. It kinda makes things interesting on one hand, and a little frustrating on the the other, but that's kinda part of what makes it fun for me.

Don't forget the fact that this season, I grabbed a few neglected fighters which brought my record down (even though I was 4 games under .500 with 7 fighters)
I think the discount should come to the two or three newer teams, so they have an easier time easing into the league and actually have a chance to be contenders quickly.

Hey, I said "arguably". Great team, great manager, but do you think any of your current guys are legit title threats as they sit right now?

Arguably, I don't have any elite fighters either and Franklin didn't help going 2-4 last season. lol

You have 3 former champions. You would have a hard time arguing they were not elite.

Maybe you misunderstood me or something... i dont know but... buying a not previously made fighter at 2 points is fine... i'm just say the whole point of drafting is to draft fighters (from the swap list or draft list) these guys should be at 1 point (or free) but only at draft just to compensate for the ability to get 1 point at draft anyways. i'd again go into more detail but i'm not in a mood for typing a bunch of stuff

We could look at modifying the guidelines for purchasing existing fighters, but I like having the flexibility to have "flash sale" drafts, when league-need dictates need (like Season 9's draft - a league hole existed, a draft-sale solved it).

The draft sales are all well and good The Sandmen, but I 1 point for new/rookie fighters seems appropriate due to them being effectively inferior to the fighters that are already established in the league, for the most part. It would also still leave room for the draft sales; the only real difference being that the new/rookie fighters would be free and fighters from the swap list would cost you 1 point. Just throwing that out there.

but 1 point for new/rookie fighters seems appropriate due to them being effectively inferior to the fighters that are already established in the league, I already said I am not interested in doing this across the board because people get someone new for cheap/free, they lose 2 fights, then they are dumped. I understand your point entirely, and I know you would not be one of these people, but there are at least several who would/do. It's a waste of my time. 2 points has cleaned that problem up a lot since we changed it.

Fighters on the swap list would still be 2 points, all I was talking about was the new fighters to the league being 1 point. ie. Nate Quarry would have only cost me 1 point this season, but if I'd elected to take Serra with that pick, he'd still have been 2 points. Does that make sense? Also, the dropping the fighters after 2 fights was fixed... it's actually 3 now, but if you are worried about folks using the 3 fight rule, then make it so rookies aren't eligible to be dropped for a point just as they're not eligible for FiD. They can still be swapped or auctioned, but that solves the body/point issue.
