oh ick. it's boxing all over again. MMA fighters need to get serious about protecting themselves.

Damn straight. It's reasons like that for why I don't mind when the doctor comes over to spot a fighter if a lot of damage was inflicted. Maybe docs need to do mandatory checks for both fighters during every round stoppage.

If I was that fighter, and saw this, the first people I would be firing is my corner. Where the fuck were they??? Your guy - the guy you are supposed to be protecting - just passed out, face first, on the mat. The fight is over. This is why sometimes I tihnk it's best to have family in there. I remember BJ Penn's brother stopping the GSP fight, and that's who you want in your corner. Someone who knows you, knows your limits, and won't subject you to unnecessary punishment. This guy could have been VERY seriously injured and those guys should never be allowed to corner again.

althletes have a history of allowing their coaches and trainers to abuse them why it almsot has to be institutionally difficult, like The Rocketmen 's suggestion that a doctor check after each round. Ideally, athletes would have good corner's to back them, but realistically the corner makes more money when their guy doesn't get pulled. This looks like fixing to me, but obviously there aren't the details to say for sure.
