Exactly. I will still never forget Hoi walking in to edit, and him saying he saw the footage and if that was my impression of him it was terrible.

What did he say? "I saw you footage, actually."

He said "leave, a new group is coming in here." So I left. Then I returned to borrow more camera gear and left again. If I were left-handed, this would be funny.

My favorite part of awards night is when we went out during the judges discussion and kept being told we were going to win, only to come in second because the punchline was just oh so funny.

For those following along, here is our first film:

The film that won, which includes the douchiest introduction ever:

I was shocked at how funny people found our movie. I didn't ever think it was funny, but the theatre laughed more during our film than any of the others. That was most intriguing to me.

Yes. Though by comparison, one film that it was creepy to just have a girl scribbling on pieces of paper in a room as the camera circled, and then walk into a tree, disappear and walk out of another tree.
We got a lot of laughs over things I thought were mildly funny but not laugh out loud funny. I guess we were just too close to the material that the humour dissipated.

Maybe. But it's funny cause we all know my strange sense of humour, and there was absolutely none of that here. I mean, the penis drawing scene I thought was objectively funny (when you can make out the damned penis), but the rest, mostly just casual conversation - things on students' minds. It was great to see how much people reacted to that. And conversely, how few reacted to our actually-hilarious film, The Skew.

Yes. The fact that everyone sat there and laughed almost out of nervousness for the riské nature of The Skew was equally as enjoyable to me than the film was. And having us giggle uncontrollably throughout in the corner made it difficult for me to sit through.

I hated not sitting near you for The Skew screening becuase I had to giggle alone in the corner and you were somewhere else, and everyone was staring at me. Just like that time in Dadey's class ( with the whole, "We pass notes to learn better" thing - how epic was that shit - be honest)

It was the best. I still talk about that from time to time and how you convinced our Prof that by allowing people to exchange notes and laugh at funny things related to the education it would help them remember it better.
Also, I think you were like sitting behind me in a corner, and I was next to the girls, who stared at me multiple times like "what the fuck is this?" but hey, we still nearly aced it AND he forgot to let us do the question-answer period, despite the film ending on a cliff hanger.
We should have added a title card at the end that just said "Now for the Question/Answer Period" and we probably would have rocked the shit out of it.

True. I also like that we made that one girl's character a stuffed pig without ever telling her. We are not nice.
But honestly, one of the funniest things to ever happen in life was the first ever, "I'm your host as always...MORGAN FREEMAN!"

To put detail on that moment. Justin and I were cramped up in the editing room which is on the 7th floor of one of the building on our campus. We just bought snacks from a vending machine, it was about 3 in the morning, and the room itself is about MAYBE 150 square feet. Inside of that was two televisions, a computer desk that took up an entire quarter of the room, two chairs, a book shelf that was locked (that we cracked the case on) filled with Criterion dvd's (which we subsequently ripped to Justin's laptop) and a microwave... It was our first time doing voice work as we had just filmed a bunch of dolls having a conversation across the campus - which we REALLY could have done so much more with, like outside shots, tossing them off a building and so on. And then we have this one doll. It's a singing lobster and it sings the song "hot hot hot". We needed a name for the host. I stare at this doll. Justin stares at the doll. I lean into the microphone and say... "I'm your host as always..." MORGAN FREEMAN!
