I'm not saying it was a waste of time. I'm saying your kid stealing $10 from your wallet and you trying to get a cop to straighten your kid out are not emergencies. Frankly you should be able to teach your child right and wrong without needing the police.
If your afraid for your life or dying... Emergency. Teaching your kid.. Non-emergency.
Call the right number.

people who get angry over her trying to deter her kid from a future in crime are people who clearly don't have kids. sometimes when you fear something, drastic measures need to be taken, and if that means i save my kid from dying due to crime and violence later on, then so fucking be it.

I'm not mad about the fact she called... I'm just saying call the right number. The right number being the non- emergency number for your local police ... Not 911

So because she called dispatch and dispatch handled the call and delivered it to the police to send someone out to go there, that technically it was the dispatcher's fault for doing their job improperly?

I agree with this but the bottom line is that 9-1-1 is for emergencies... it's 2015... everyone knows this, so the onus is just as much on the mother for calling as it is the dispatcher cuz both should know better.

I remember when I was a kid someone threatened to call the police because I phoned him when he didn't want to be phoned. Rather than ask me not to phone, he said he would call the police on me. Would that count as a non-emergency?

Apparently they don't... cuz a kid taking $10 out of their parent's wallet is more of an emergency that an armed robbery, a gang shooting, car accident or a violent domestic dispute. Cuz fuck current public safety, right? The police have to go and "scare" a teenager, on an "emergency call", for taking $10 so he doesn't go down the wrong path later... lol
