I was approached by a ManMMA member about this fine proposal.
Percieved Problem Selecting fighters with draft picks is baseless. You either have a fighter in mind and have no idea how good they will be, or you have to trust Sandmen/The Insider's best guess on who will be good. There is no objective way of seeing who is any good.
Suggested Solution Presenting....ManNXT - A minor league that runs during the ManMMA season with guys who are not in the league to see who the best fighters are that are not in ManMMA.
The Gritty Details - An undetermined number of cards in a season, 5 fights (max) per card, probably no write-ups. - Cards would be made by the member who proposed this suggested - simmed by Sandmen using the builds the fighters would actually have upon entering ManMMA. - depending on how the season panned out, at the end of the season either the last undefeated fighter would be delcared season champion, or if more cards are done, the 2 best fighters would fight for the title of season champion. - ManNXT would consist of 2 divisions, Men's and Women's. Though one weight class is not ideal, it is kind of the limitation of time and personnel that makes it so. - All fights would be catchweight, making weight and size as little an issue as we can - at the beginning of the season, all ManNXT fighters would be entered into the league. Suggestions could be taken for people you would like to see fighting samples of. - Fighters in ManNXT would be eligible for draft, but would be removed from the Free Agent list - they would not be available for free agent acquisition.
The Added Bonus There are bonus points to be earned here! For the ManNXT season, you will have fighters that "represent" you. Basically once all the competing fighters are determined, fighters will be randomly assigned to teams. (Note, they are not actually yours or upgradable or anything, so think of it more in terms of players randomly assigned to your team in a hockey pool or something). Bonus points will be given out with the following ManNXT awards: - Championship award - if a fighter from your pool wins the season championship, you get a point. - Runner-Up Award - if a fighter from your pool is the season runner-up, you get a point. - Standings Award - if your pool of fighters has the best combined record at the end of the ManNXT season, you get a point
To avoid point-massacring, I think I'm going to say each team is only eligible for 1 award per ManNXT season (So if you win the Championship award, you are not eligible to also receive the standings award - the next-highest team will get that, etc).
Then, once the season is over, all ManNXT fighters will be eligible for the ManMMA draft, and you will have a much better idea of how prospects fight, where they rank against others, etc.
Thoughts, questions, comments, concerns?

If ManNXT is a thing, then both Dave Bautista and Dos Caras, Jr. NEED to be in there.

dos Caras Jr. is perma-ManMMA retired. That would extend to ManNXT as well.

Would this completely clear the FA list of all available fighters then?

Would this completely clear the FA list of all available fighters then? Not unless all the Free agents were in ManNXT. I'm still working on the numbers, but realistically it would take a good bite out of it I think. There would still be guys on there, but the theory would be the better guys would be in the minors, rather than no where at all (by which I mean Free agency).

And we'd select teams essentially for this?

You'd be randomly assigned the pool of fighters that would represent your "team" in the pool.

Why would it need to be random if it's a limited number of fighters? Like 2-4 per team... that's not a helluva lot.

Clarification: The fighters participating would not be random, they would be picked by me based on merit, and by members who had specific fighters they wanted to see participate in that season.
But the reason for randomization rather than picking your own guys to represent you is:
1) It ensures 100% participation. 2) It ensures fairness. 3) It reduces feelings of ownership of certain fighters
Among others.

i think it needs to be random otherwise wed get accusations of cheating and shit and that aint cool. random for fairness.

That too.
And I donno, I also think it's kind of exciting random. You end up cheering for people who probably had no intention of cheering for. Maybe even guys you hate. It's different from anything else we have here, so its a nice variety.
