So, I saw the movie, and I'd have to say that it was pretty good. Although, I am biased because I love the games and want to truly believe that it was really good. Just like the Star Wars prequels. If you haven't played the games, I wouldn't waste money on the movie, because it will be really confusing, and it will probably take you on a trip straight to destination fucked.

Does the movie deal with, or touch on, the whole time "travel" or piecing together memories, or whatever the weird time-difference stuff is in the games?

Yeah, it has the animus and everything. It places the main character in the memories of his Ancestor during the Spanish Inquisitions. The action in the movie was what kept it going imo... the plot could have been better.

It was definitely weird... I'd say give it a shot when it comes out on DVD, but don't spend money on a movie ticket.

No, it's nobody from the games... its a movie original... acting was great, plot was not.
