I updated Title History (probably my favourite thing on the site), and found the following things interesting. Felt I would pass them along.
- It took real life super-Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell nearly 5 years to win a championship. Once he did, he went on to tie the record for most consecutive HW title defences (and he is currently 1 win away from breaking that record).
- Joanna Jedrzejczyk has secretly (or not secretly, depending on whether you have been working on your FWs or not) become one of the most dominant champions in ManMMA history. She is currently in sole possession of 4th place in the ManMMA record books with 18 total belt defences (behind Gina Carano (29), Anderson Silva (21, 17 at MW and 7 at HW) & Shinya Aoki (19) ). She is also in 3rd place with most consecutive title defences with 14 (behind Wanderlei Silva (15) and Shinya Aoki (17) ).
- Relatedly, after 77 events, only 2 women have ever held the Flyweight Championship.
- 4 different men have held the Lightweight Championship this season (across 7 events). Contrast that to the longest LW title reign which ended just a season and a half ago. It lasted over 2 and a half seasons (52 events).
- 4 different men have also held the Middleweight Championship this season. Due to a booking error, the title was on the line at ManMMA 340, 341, 342, and ManMMA 344. Despite a season break and Grand Prix between 340 and 341, I believe this is still the most frequently a title has been on the line in ManMMA history. (The error has since been resolved, and the title is back to being defenced every 3rd event).
- Major underdogs Demetrius Johnson (of The Sandmen) and Nick Diaz (of The Texas Rattlesnakes) both won belts this season. Last season, Johnson was on Rattlesnakes team, and Diaz was on Sandmen's team.
Complete title histories, in all their magnificent glory, can be found here. Check them out - they are super cool.
