Welp, Khabib dropped the fight due to weight cutting issues. He was hospitalized. I guess Conor McGregor was right. The guy always hurts himself.

You can't blame a person for injuries. I do blame the sport for weight-cutting issues though. Good rule of thumb - if Conor said it, it was probably wrong.

Conor said he didn't want to fight Khabib because he is always hurting himself. Khabib needs to weight cut differently if he can't do it the way he is.

Easier said than done. Cutting weight is a VERY precise science that has about 50 different variables that can have a huge ripple affect and dramatically affect your fail/success rate. Contrary to what casual fans think, it is not just about losing the weight. It is about peaking. You want to lose exactly the right amount of weight, then be in a position to allow your body to regain the weight, and your energy, to maximum levels before fight day, which is about 24-35 hours later. Weight cutting is not safe and should no longer be an accepted practice in any sport.
IRL, Conor knows Khabib is the best grappler he will likely ever face, and not a "money fight", so he wants any excuse possible to not have that fight. Note that GSP, Anderson Silva, Chuck Liddell, Jon Jones, etc - none of the GoaTs ever said any such thing. They fought literally all challengers, and cleaned out their division. If I ran the UFC, I would stop allowing Conor to deminish the product by trashing everyone he has not fought in divisions he has not cleaned out. You want to see legit mixed martial artists, check out GSP and Anderson. Even after they cleaned out their divisions pretty much entirely, they were not running from fights, or acting like bitches. They kept fighting everyone.
Anyone can call out guys and claim guys aren't good enough or worthy of fighting them. The true test of a champion is if they will say, "Cool, who's next?" and actually mean it.

Ageing does tend to bring about side-effects such as retirement, yes.

Again, easier said than done.
Personally, I believe in same-day weigh-ins. I think weight-cutting is stupid and should essentially be abolished. Same-day weigh-ins really make people think about the pros vs. cons of weight-cutting.
