So the top eight teams of each season end up in the Grand Prix, awesome, but I think it would be cool if the bottom four teams could have a little tournament too. Then, the two losers of that tournament and the two winners would face off to establish the best trash team, and the worst trash team. That sounds really fun, and we should make it happen.

so in the middle of 35 fights to sim during a grand prix you want an additional 20 simmed fights just because?

The folks that have been here longer than you know the deal. This is nice on paper, but absolutely brutal on me, your friendly neighbourhood Sandman. Both from a simming perspective, and a site administrative perspective.
If you haven't noticed the posts I make every season, I bitch and moan a lot already becuase of the amount of work GP involves. The visual format is different from our all-season template, so everything from posting the card, to posting the sim itself is slower and more tedious. And lastly, the GP itself is quite large. Round 1 is 20 fights, which is larger than a typical card. (Then round 2 and the finals, which are simmed together, are the biggest pain in the ass i have all season, because of formatting and set up as well).
NOT to mention, while I am doing GP, I am also setting up and overseeing the draft (which this season could include the Ferocity dispersement in some form), and also, typically, trying to get a trade or two done, since I often (but not always), want to pick up another draft pick or two.
It's also the time of season when bitching is at its peak, since people are sad they did not make the GP, or sad because they lost in the GP. They also like to come up with suggestions, and bitch if I say there is no time to do them at this point in the season, or if I say the suggestion needs work but I am too busy to do that work for them.
Anyways, yeah, as much as I would want and like to accommodate such a thing for the no-GP teams, it would be literal, absolute hell on a practical level.

Love the idea, but the execution is a major undertaking. Maybe in the future that would be neat, but for now less is more.

This particular topic has been brought up a few times over the years, and I've always been all for it... However, the logistics of it and the time to do it are the problem, despite us having one-off mini-GPs before.
What I would suggest, in this instance, would be to have the bottom 2 teams, or whomever owns the top two picks, battle it out in a mini-GP for the rights for 1st overall pick. Kind of a lottery of sorts. Just a thought anyways...
