As I touched on in a few threads this past card, I feel the Women's division is in dire need of, at the very least, a small over haul, if not a big one.
I only point to the fact that in all the Men's divisions, we've had multiple champions, whereas since the gals have been in ManMMA, we've had 3 of them (Kaufman, Cyborg & Carano) that have completely dominated the entire division and thusly have been just handing the title around amongst eachother with no real tangible sign of any other fighter being able to crack that iron curtain, with notable exception to Rousey, but even then, we're going to have to see what happens with that next title fight.
Now I'm not saying that these top 3 fighters aren't worthy of being there, cuz they are, but the fact is that we have more than 3 world class female fighters in ManMMA like Marloes Coenen, Miesha Tate, Cat Zingano, Megumi Fujii, Alexis Davis, Liz Carmouche, Jessica Eye, Zoila Gurgel, etc., that are all top P4P fighters in the world, yet here, they're not even a blip on the radar. Whether it's because of a poor build or fouled up upgrades isn't the issue. The issue is that the women's division has these great competitors that should be contesting for the title all the time, but it's always just a foregone conclusion that once they reach the top of heap and obtain either a title shot or are up against one of those top 3, they just lose and that's just the way it is. I dunno about the rest of you, but to me, that's unacceptable. Are we not supposed to have "the best of the best" in ManMMA?
I've got a couple of ideas I want to run by the rest of the league to get your thoughts. Neither might be very "popular" but they'd be a jump start the division to getting things on track.
Suggestion #1: Cap the Kaufman, Cyborg & Carano (effectively Rousey aswell due to Kaufman) from upgrades until we start seeing that atleast some of the rest of the girls are catching up. Where there's atleast some parity and not such a large gap between them and the rest of the girls in the division.
Suggestion #2: Since the only litmus paper we have to go on is the 35-36 points Cannon put into Rousey, that's basically our magic number for the rest of the girls to catch up. And let's face facts, not all teams in the league accumulate allot of points nor do they just focus on one fighter as Cannon did with Rousey either; and if they do, it's usually a male fighter.
So as another option, any fighter that has had less than 10-15 points put into them would receive a 5-10 point bonus this off season to help balance out the division. This would place the onus on me to get the most accurate number of upgrades each woman has had since upgrades were introduced since I am the Point Allocationist; though if you have kept track of your upgrades as I have, submitting those numbers to me would be most appreciated.
Suggestion #3: Both of the above. It would speed up the process and allow a quicker and a little less painful transition for the owners of those top 3/4 fighter, but also get them back to being able to upgrade them sooner rather than later.
These are my thoughts. Let's hear yours GMs of ManMMA... What do you think?
