By pretty much all accounts, Chris Leben was a company guy for the UFC. Fought whoever, whenever. Always came to fight, etc. A few hours go, he tweeted this:

I agree with Rocketmen. Plus, it's a tweet. It's 100% in context. The one before it was about something he ate or some shit.

You miss the point, Cannon. When you bleed and injure yourself for a company, it is not unreasonable to expect the company to take care of you. Paying you your fight wage, and taking care of your medical bills are 2 totally different things.

a company doesn't have to take care of you unless it's in your contract. If he doesn't have it in his contract then thats his own fault.. If it is as cannon said and he was drinking and drugging his money away.. not the companyy's fault either. If I was a pro fighter I would make sure it's in my contract to be well taken care of with medical and wages before I fight my first fight. then if the company trys to screw me over i can take them to court.

xx - Camp Cannon : Seriously, you disgust me on a level I can't even express right now for your ignorance toward substance abuse, which is absolutely irrelevant to this entire conversation, but I have to say fucking shame on you. xx - Team GAP : I'd like to see you say that exact same thing to current and alumni NHL, NFL, and MLB athletes. Say the same thing to any business that has a union outside of sports. It is the responsibility of the "league" to look after it's athletes. It's why Theoren Fleury was submitted to rehab during his comeback year in New York. I feel like you guys don't understand on multiple levels. 1. The discussion is about how ridiculous the UFC is in their wages for their employees, as well as the lack of benefits they provide the fighters, but they can just go and cut them if they feel like it. It's a promotion company that wants respect at the height of MLB, NFL, NBA, and NHL, but refuse to provide the REAL assets those athletes receive because of their union. The UFC is due for a fucking wake-up call. But as much as the UFC wants to be respected on par with those sports, they refuse to allow themselves to become a league, refuse to have a fighter's union, refuse to pay them adequately. It's going to crash and burn, while current fighters suffer through poverty because of it. 2. Companies that actually have unions have these things called OUTREACH PROGRAMS. Where they hold meetings to discuss company morale, employee issues and possible outside of work problems that they may need help with. These companies pay people to council their employees who may need help, or an ear to talk to for things that have NOTHING to do with their work. Then there's a thing called INSURANCE and BENEFITS that you get with these companies. Where after you've talked to someone (or not at all) you can submit yourself to rehab and possibly still get paid, because you're improving yourself as an employee to handle the issue in order to return to the company to work sober. Then there's a thing called stress leave, in which your benefits in some companies allow you to take. This can be attributed to a multitude of things - including mental health, substance abuse, etc. All those REAL things that REAL companies, and business and other fucking sports offer, the UFC does NOT offer, and until they DO offer it, they may as well just be a fucking concession stand, where instead of buying popcorn, you're buying the opportunity to watch someone fight. So, I'll assume GAP and Cannon are simply too narrow-minded and uneducated toward both the UFC's lack of employee benefits as well as substance abuse and that they had no idea what the hell they were talking about RATHER than to allow myself to believe they are idiot assholes.
