This is a polished version of The Texas Rattlesnakes's "ManUltimate Fighter" suggestion.
Important Prologue:
I promise you this sounds way more complicated and messy than it would be in practise. Once it's happening, it will be rather simple.
Glossary:
This section won't make much sense at first, but you still kinda need to know it moving forward. So just read it and power forward.
- I'm using terms here like "ManTUF", ManNXT" and "season". The following should be noted:
- Here, I use ManTUF and ManNXT pretty interchangeably. ManTUF generally refers to the tournament itself, ManNXT refers to the season as a whole.
- Basically I am suggesting replacing our typical ManNXT season with this more detailed tournament structure, which I am refering to here as "ManTUF". I am probably not using the name "ManTUF" officially. I am just using it here for short forms. The whole thing, if implemented, will be referred to as ManNXT Season 2, for simplicity & continuity.
- I use the term "season" here to mean a single ManNXT season, which would be 1 full tournament, basically. It refers to the time before the first fight and until after the ManTUF winner is crowned.
I use the term "ManNXT fighters" basically to refer to all "minor league" fighters. People not in ManMMA, who will be participating in ManTUF.
Problem Being Solved:
- Continuing to have drafts mean something, by giving people a preview of how potential fighters would fight in ManMMA.
(Very) Core Concept:
- Very much like UFC's The Ultimate Fighter.
- Two GMs pick ManNXT teams and face off against each other for the ManNXT season.
- The fighters fight in a tournament to determine the season's "ManTUF" winner.
(Very) Detailed Sketch:
- Teams volunteer to "coach" a TUF team against 1 other "coach".
- The winner of a coin toss chooses whether they want first fighter pick, or if they want to pick the first fight.
- A draft is conducted between the 2 coaches, and teams are determined. Once that is completed, the coach who chooses the first fight posts the fight they have chosen.
- The winner of the fight chooses the next fight for his team.
- Each coach gets a pool of points at the start of the "season" (something like 4), to be used however they want. These points will be ManNXT exclusive, and cannot be applied to ManMMA fighters.
- When a fighter wins a fight, he/she gets a point. That point is earned by, and will be applied to, that specific fighter only.
- Coaches will not be allowed to subtract points from a ManNXT fighter.
- Coaches CAN opt to spend thier ManMMA points on a ManNXT fighter if they choose.
- Coaches can only spend ManNXT points on fighters that are on their team. They may, however, spend ManMMA points on any ManNXT fighter, if, for some reason, they want to do so...ya never know.
- If one coach has more winners than the other, then, like real TUF, their fighters will eventually have to face each other.
- There will be 4 weightclasses/tournaments (HW, MW, LW, Womens).
- This will be strictly voluntary; no one will be forced, or coerced into participating, and there is no additional incentive for participating other than having some control over where upgrades go into a specific set of ManNXT fighters.
- If we have less than 8 people interested in being coaches (which I expect we will), we will have 1 member coach multiple weight classes.
- are you still reading this? Good job! You're a rock star! (Please don't mention this comment in the thread - I want people to stay on point with this discussion)
Other Important Tidbits:
- Just like ManNXT, coaching fighters does NOT mean those fighters are yours. This is simply establishing a draft pool, basically. Fighters are only yours when they have been drafted into ManMMA, via our regular, official draft channels.
- Even after all the input here, I might throw up a poll, so don't be discouraged. But comment here, because I also might not throw up a poll. COMMENT!
Questions? Comments? Concerns? Hodor?
I'm sure I left stuff out, since it's 3:30am (but I wanted to get this posted ASAP). Please post any and all feedback below, INCLUDING If you prefer this more interactive approach over the "season then champion" apprach we took in ManNXT Season 1. Or if you prefer no ManNXT at all, for some reason.
Thanks guys! Please input your input, as your input is a valuable resource in helping grow and maintain the strong community of epicdom we have had, and will continue to have here.
