The Best Rookie Season
The current ManMMA Lightweight Champion, Cody Garbrandt is having arguably the best rookie season anyone has ever had on the site, so lets take a look at his accomplishments so far.
Cody Garbrandt was drafted by The Texas Rattlesnakes in the first round of the season 19 draft on April 11th, 2017.
He had his first fight on ManMMA 361 against The Killing Joke 's Eddie Wineland, who was 1-2 at the time. Garbrandt finished Wineland at the 3:43 minute mark of the first round.

In his second fight on ManMMA 367 he faced his first elite opponent. Joachim Hansen. Hansen was a three time lightweight champ heading into the fight. His first reign included eight title defenses, his second reign had four, and he lost the title his first fight after winning it during his third reign. Garbrandt knocked Hansen out at 4:15 of the second round, but was it a fluke? That's exactly what the fans of ManMMA wondered, until the their rematch two events later.

At ManMMA 369 questions would be answered in Garbrandt's third fight, which was also their rematch. xx - The King's Poison 's Hansen was able to do more damage in this fight, but still fell short. Garbrandt knocked Hansen out at 3:27 of the second round. Joachim Hansen was traded to xx - Former Bulldozers shortly after.

Cody Garbrandt was entered into his first lightweight tournament in his fourth fight against B.J. Penn. Although Penn has never been a lightweight champion, he is well known for his big victories in the Grand Prix. He came into the fight with 68 wins and 51 losses, but xx - The Broad Street Bullies ' Penn would walk out with 52 after being knocked out at 0:54 of the second round.

In his fifth fight, he faced his toughest opponent yet in Shinya Aoki. The winner would go on to fight for the lightweight championship. Aoki, one of the best submission fighters on ManMMA, was a two time lightweight champion. In his first reign he had two title defenses. In his second reign he had 17 straight title defenses, which is also the record for most lightweight defenses in ManMMA. After giving Garbrandt the longest fight of his career, Cody knocked Aoki out at 3:06 of the fifth round. Garbrandt survived ten submissions, and landed 44 out of 64 thrown punches.

Garbrandt would go on to face xx - Camp Cannon 's Melvin Guillard for the ManMMA Lightweight Championship at ManMMA 377. Guillard had won the title once before at ManMMA 57, but was unable to defend it. After trying to defend his title for the first time. In Cody Garbrandt's sixth fight on ManMMA he knocked out Melvin Guillard at 2:56 of the first round to win his sixth straight win, and first lightweight championship.
