How did subsequent rounds work in sports that used this system? Did they pick every round, or did they do "vs lowest" after round 1?

Yeah, this is the first I've heard of this format, but I like the idea of the next lowest opponent type thing.

European thing maybe? I heard it mentioned like, once in passing on an NHL article after about the 2nd straight year the 1st place team was swept by some 8th placed rival. Forget all the details though.

I guess that is a bit different in that 1st place has to choose between 5th and 8th place, instead of being able to pick anyone. I would think I would rather go with a "you can choose anyone" format, instead of just 5th to 8th. Matchups can matter, and giving people more options for matchups increases the strategy and intrigue, I think.

I know it's 5th to 8th in that hockey thing, but 2nd to 8th could be interesting.

Here, I would say 2nd-8th. Keep things interesting.

so what if someone doesnt want to face someone? for example: i dont want to face sandman cause i always lose to him but he wants to face me and he is #1 seed. (just thought this might be important later and something to think about)

That's the advantage he would have as the #1 Seed. Although, I do think it would be interesting to say like "this is a team I do not want to face" in case the team doesn't really have a preference on who he faces, but does have one to dodge or something. I don't know, but I'm definitely enjoying the thought of this format.

If you do not want to face someone, put them last on your preference list.

I think it could work for the 1st round... I still see it getting too messy in subsequent rounds. Just my opinion...

What I mean is that we have some actual rivalries in the league; ie. Phoenix FC vs. Cramp Cannon, Rattlesnakes vs. Killing Joke, Phoenix FC vs. Team GAP, Sandmen vs. Rocketmen... Sandmen vs. Everyone really lol
Only issue I see here is that the Sandmen are usually the top seed, which sux for the league too, being he's the simmer too, could cause issues... And not only from me either. Just saying that Sandmen being the overseer of the site already, and cuz he's at the top of the standings most seasons, doesn't bode well for the rest of us if he gets to choose his GP opponents an coast to victory.

Now, if the bottom 4 teams got the choice, that would make it more interesting IMO. Gives a slighty "oh shit" moment for the top teams.

I'll also put forth that I still think the teams that don't make the GP should have GP format fights against the other bottom teams as the under card.
