With the modification of weightlcasses, and the introduction of a new Atomweight title, our season schedule is getting a bit of an overhaul.
This complicated-as-fuck table gives you a guideline of how the Atomweight championship tournament is going to play out. Please note, we are only looking at the white middle rows, that begin with "A".
English translation:
1) Every AW is in the inaugural AW Championship tournament
2) The first round consists of 16 fights. These will be spread across 4 events (marked on the table as "A16"), with 4 fights per card (that is what the "(4)" in the table represents).
3) The second round consists of 8 fights, across 4 cards (ManMMA 448 to ManMMA 451), with 2 AW tournament fights per card.
4) The third round consists of 4 fights, across 4 cards (ManMMA 452 to ManMMA 455), with 1 AW tournament fight per card.
5) The fourth round will consist of 2 fights at ManMMA 457. The winners of this fight will fight for the inaugural AW championship at Zenith.
6) To establish contenders for next season, and set the flow of our AW tournament structure back on an appropriate pace with the rest of the weightclasses, a regular AW tournament will begin at ManMMA 459, and another will begin at Zenith. The winners of these tournaments will get their title shots next season, as everything falls into place.
7) Other weightclasses will have tweaks here and there as well this season, but I will likely have to move some of those around as I am booking cards, so I have not updated this table to most accurately reflect how those may or may not play out.
8) Expect a couple little rough patches. It sucks, but some #1 Contenders may not get their promised title shots. I hate to Dana-White people, but in some of these cases, a #1 contender spot was earned in a weightclass that fighter no longer fights in, and so on. So small patchwork is being done here and there, and things will be normal in other weightclasses by mid-season I expect.
Also want to thank you all for your patience during this transition. I know some did not want it, I know some loved it, and I know many were indifferent. But in the end, it will be for the best and the long-term results of this experiment will likely demonstrate that. And if not...well...
