This was messaged to me off-site, and I think this could be a really cool idea.
The Problem Being Fixed by this Suggestion
Since the SuperFight championship is mostly dominated by heavier fighters, it's losing a lot of its potential and variety. Basically, it has become a second Heavyweight Championship. We also do not have a female SuperFight Champpionship.
Proposed Solution
The SuperFight championship be fought at different weightclasses (including the female ones) every season. The weightclass the belt is for is determined each off-season by the last-place team. For the following season, all season, challenges are made, and the SuperFight Championship is fought for, and defended, within the weightclass chosen at the draft. At the 18th event of the season, whoever holds the SuperFight championship will relinquish that belt, and fight for the Championship belt of their weightclass at Zenith. At the draft following Zenith, the last-place team will choose the weightclass again, and the cycle repeats.
The Specifics
- This season, whoever holds the SuperFight championship at ManMMA 458 will relinquish the belt, and fight for the championship in his weightclass at Zenith (probably HW championship).
- At the draft, the team with the first overall pick gets the usual perks of drafting first, but also selects a fighter from their team to compete for the SuperFight Belt (thus also determining the weightclass of the upcoming seasons' SuperFight championship).
- Every subsequent draft pick can also choose a fighter from the now-determined weightclass to fight for the SuperFight championship.
- The first SuperFight championship fight will be at ManMMA 461, between the fighter chosen by the team selecting first overall, and the team selecting second overall.
- From then on, any challenges issued from the draft and then, if applicable, the challenge thread, will get a shot at the SuperFight championship for the remainder of the season.
- Challenges will be first come, first served, except in cases of repeat-challenges. i.e. if your fighter has already challenged this season, someone who has not had a chance will get a fight before their rematch type thing).
- At ManMMA 478, the final SuperFight match of the season takes place.
- The winner at ManMMA 478 fights for the title at Zenith.
- Last place team chooses a new weightclass at the draft.
- Repeat.
Other Details
- Like draft picks themselves, the selection of the Superfight weight class can be traded.
- If the first overall selection does not want to choose a weightclass/participate, the next team up to draft can choose, etc. Just like drafting a fighter.
Stuff to Discuss(?)
- I am thinking that the SuperFight belt will be defended any time there is a challenger waiting, which means we might potentially have a SuperFight title defence every card. This might get insane, so this is open for discussion. I don't really think "first 4 people to challenge get all 4 title shots" makes a lot of sense though.
- Perhaps add a bonus if a fighter holds onto the SuperFight belt all season? Or defends a certain number of times in a season? Like, 1 point if you defend all season? Or for every 4 defences, or something?
Thoughts?
