The league acquired a series of assets from King's Poison for a large lump sum of points to avoid an increasingly-ridiculous bidding war that was taking place. For the league, the purpose was balancing out teams. The majority of them are "you can have this fighter that you need for whatever you want to give", as was the case here.

In the case of wealthier teams, like Rattlesnakes and Bulldozers, acquiring better fighters, the price is higher, and the points included in the trade go to other teams in the league. Again, for league-benefit.
