Kruze, tell me more about your meeting with Edge. Sounds interesting.
It was the end of May 2000 &Raw came to Vancouver. It was the last time they would be at the, then, GM Place for quite some time cuz Kane's pyro singed the ceiling when he came out for a Lumberjack match between Taker & The Rock, so they were banned from that arena for a good 10 years at least. lol
I'd only been living in Vancouver for about a year at that point and was working at a gas station at the time, so I couldn't afford tickets to the show, but I decided to grab the bus and head down to the arena anyways to maybe get an autograph or whatever since they were here. Saw Shane & Kane as they left but no one was stopping for autographs, but heard some of the wrestlers were going over to the strip on Granville, so I went over there just to see with another dude.
After about a half hour to an hour of nothing, we'd finally given up and I parted with the guy and was heading back to Skytrain when who do I see walking directly towards me? The large 6'5 frame of Adam Copeland and his little buddy Jay Reso; Edge & Christian. I went up and introduced myself, exchanged pleasantries with them, they introduced themselves by their real names and then mentioned they were going for coffee at the Blends up the street and invited me to join them. I wasn't about to say no, obviously, so we went and they bought me a coffee, even though I offered to pay. It took me well over an hour of them reminding me to call them Adam & Jay, not Edge & Christian, but I finally got it. lol
They had just lost the tag titles to Too Cool that night, so I expressed my condolences, and Adam joked "Yeah, I know man... We're going be relegated to Jakked for the rest of our lives now." 😂 I called a buddy up and told him who I was having coffee with, so he and his wife came down to join us.
After about 15-20mins of just shooting the shit, talking hockey, music, wrestling, etc. Chris Jericho showed up too for a bit then left. We all sat there for a good 3hrs or so just yakking and having fun. My buddy's wife brought her camera, so we got our pictures taken with Adam & Jay then went on our merry ways.
Old pic that I either scanned or took a pic of with my phone well after the fact. lol Phones sucked in 2000.
lol After that I heeard from them quite a bit on myspace, as well as Ashley Massaro until myspace became virtually obsolete; we were a few of the diehards that stayed around longer than most folks. It was a fun night. I haven't spoken to either of them in about 10-12 years now, and I was super sad about Ashley passing away last year too. The day before she died, I was contemplating reaching out to her again and reconnecting too.
Anyways, that's the Adam & Jay story. I had a similar experience years later meeting Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, and ended up having dinner & drinks with Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin, Rey Mysterio & Rikishi after a house show at Pacific Coliseum.
