After most recently updating the champion title defence histories, we're finding more and more that dominant champions are just fighting the same 5 people over and over again. The tournaments are starting to act as gatekeepers for new title challengers, instead of giving more new and exciting people shots at the title.
People with hot winning streaks are losing their 4, 5, or 6 fight win streaks in a tournament to people coming off of losses.
At the same time, since our cards now show win streaks, i don't know if tournaments are necessary to build people up for title fights.
For these reasons, I'm considering getting rid of our 4-person tournaments, for the most part, and mostly just having #1 Contender fights. This would get new fights in the title picture, new contenders, and reward longer win streaks.
Thoughts?

We could do it like UFC, but the correct way. Work uour way up the rankings and fight for the belt when youre top 5 type thing.

I don't think our rankings and match-making make that as easy or feasible as it sounds. If we have a logjam at the top 3-4 positions, it will just be the same people fighting for the belt over and over again. But as we see in MMA, it's the match-ups, not the MMA Math that brings about title changes. So while an Arlovski may have cleaned out ranks 1-5 10 times each, perhaps he cannot beat #6, 7 or 8, or something like that. Having the ability to mix new challengers in there based on who has and hasn't fought the champ, who is overdue for a title opportunity, and who makes a matchup we have not seen in a long time is kinda the direction im hoping to move in here.

You'd also have to pay attention to fighters that get fine tuned, because fine tunes make for interesting fights as well.

Maybe bring back the tourneys every once in a while . The number 1 contenders will get stale after a while too

Sometimes there are people that i feel SHOULD get title shots based on win streaks, etc. And other times, things could go 3 or 4 different ways, so those cases tournements make sense. Could also do fewer tournaments, but bigger ones. Like have one 8 or 16 person tournament per season or something.

I would be a big, big fan of bringing back some single night tournaments? SuperFight feels like a tournament structure could work and be fun for contendership but that might fuck up the whole "how many fights a team gets" thing.

Agreed and Yeah good point when it comes to an even amount of fighters from each team .
