Something that has been bugging me a bit. I won the Grand Prix last year, should I not have the chance to defend that?
I'm suggesting that the winner of the Grand Prix, automatically gets a birth into the next year's grand prix. Even if they end up being the worst team for that year.

You can trade your pick for a grand prix spot if you want. I actually offered you that trade on MSN. My spot in grand prix for your draft pick.

Tell that to the NHL, and every other major sports league that doesn't give the defending champions a free ride into the Stanley Cup, World Series, Superbowl, etc.

Like I said on MMA, I never saw the Grand Prix as the "playoffs" As this is not a team sport

OKay, so it was brought to my attention these replies seem kinda dick-ish and that wasn;t really the intention. I sort of took it for granted people understood this was set up as a pure "major-league sports" style tournament, with shitty teams taking the earlier draft picks. Thus, my initial reply was basically "If you want to trade your draft position for a tournament position, you can".
But to clarify more, after a brief MSN convo with cor, I guess this is the first year Grand Prix has been 100% like "Playoffs", since in the past there have been exceptions for champions and things like that. With the change this year of having a GOOD crop of draft picks, I moved more to full-on playoffs style, like traditional sports. I expect this is the way in which we will proceed from now on, but if anything changes with this style of format we can look into letting someone defend their title. But for now, and the foreseeable future, I think this set up kind of works. You either get a chance to be champion, or you get a high draft pick. But we will see what the future brings.

I don't know how I feel about this, but I do think that defending a title is important and is one of the things that makes MMA and other fighting sports unique and not typical like the NHL ect. Although to be fair, I don't think people get to defend titles in tennis... or maybe they do. Anyone actually watch tennis?

I dont really see the grand prix as a championship or a title.. i see it as an exclusive tournement to see who the best of the best is for the season... your only really battling for bragging rights... if you want to defend a championship then win a weight class division championship. sorry not trying to be a dick.. just trying to clear things up with my opinion

Honestly, I see both sides of this... on the one hand I, like Cor, would like to defend my GP crown, if I ever happen to win it at some point, and I do agree with Ferocity that MMA isn't like any other sprt on the planet and champions should have the opportunity to defend their title. However, this a bit of an odd year. With the number of teams that were dispersed, it leaves us with an odd number of teams and if we'd entered GrappleMuch? as a championship seed, that would either 1) Take the next team above GrappleMuch? out of the competition OR 2) Leave Cannon as the lone team not in the GP. Neither of which I feel is fair. If you wanna be in the GP, and defend your title, you earn it and get your ass back into the GP the following season. That to me is fair. (And @ Ferocity, no tennis playrs have to make it back to the finals just like every other sport. lol) Now, that being said... I just happen to be looking for a fight as well, since I asked Sandman how I was in the GP last year and not this year... He also offer me his spot for my draft pick... and I also refused. lol So, if you're down, Cor, I'll issue you a Versus Challenge. Maybe, if we ask nicely, it could be put onto the 2nd round card, perhaps?! ??? I'll probably get smoked, but it'll give us something to do... lol

If I'm right, there's 11 teams, a versus still excludes a team, and those teams sucked for the year so they don't really have a right to earn the bonus of being in the Grand Prix because they sucked.
BUT
I don't think it would be bad if those three shitty teams fought each other thus providing 3 preliminary fights to the event.
IE: Team 1 fighter vs. Team 2 Fighter. Then Team 2 (different) Fighter vs. Team 3 Fighter. Then Team 3 (different) Fighter vs. Team 1 (different) Fighter.
But putting a team in the Grand Prix because they did well last year and are like the worst team the next year, I don't see the logic.
Also, It's a TOURNAMENT, not a CHAMPIONSHIP belt. There's is no defending.

Oh... LOL I wasn't meaning entering our teams in the GP, HammerFists... As I said, I feel you have to earn that right. I was just meaning, for fun, to have a Versus Challenge as a prelim to the 2nd round. I kinda like you idea better of having Cannon involved as well.
