So for the first time we have only 1 rookie this season, and they didn't really have a great season. The spirit of the award is to reward someone who has a breakout first season. So we are kinda left with 2 options:
Either award the award to her (as winner by default), or award no winner (maintaining the spirit of the award).
Sarah D'Alelio (1-3) - win over Ayaka Hamasaki (2-2) - losses to Rousey (19-12), Carmouche (2-8), Budd (5-4)

Wow... um... well, I'm obviously going to vote for Sarah to get it, BUT I'm more surprised that she's the only rookie this year. My feeling on this is that if she was the only rookie, then she should get it. I find it a bit of a travesty that the powers that be would even put this to a vote; TBH. BUT being that the league has decided to put it to a vote and I have a number of "haters" here... I find it extremely lame to feel the need to do this... but I'll suggest for voters to go look at her fights and actually read them to make a proper decision on this one. Cuz I would consider myself to be a shitty GM if I didn't do this.. However, I'd also be saying this if it wasn't my fighter in this situation too. So, please vote on the fighter herself and her own merits, not solely based on her record or the team she is from. I'd appreciate that. This is a bit of a unique situation. Thank you. That's honestly the one of the only things working against her on this, really; and something I won't/can't argue. That part is true. Otherwise, she did well performance-wise in the cage, despite her record/the 3 losses; performance isn't always dictated by wins/losses. (See Paul Daley.). I also don't think it's a good thing to not hand out an award in a season, despite the lack of candidates.

If every goalie in the NHL is hurt all season, you don't just hand the Vezina to Sidney Crosby.

K, then here is a better one: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFC_119Frank Mir KOs Cro Cop with a knee, but the UFC awarded no KO of the night bonus because the fight sucked. Sometimes its better to offer no award than give it to a shitty "winner" by default.

Sometimes its better to offer no award than give it to a shitty "winner" by default. I just took a look at it again and I disagree with that decision too. That wasn't a bad knee thrown by Mir at all and was actually a decent fight. I will say that Cro Cop didn't seem like himself in that fight though, and likely lent to you thinking the fight sucked which is understandable. It wasn't a stellar performance by either guy since we've all seen better out of both men, but that knee was pretty nasty at the end and likely should've gotten KO of the Night IMO despite being the only one... Dana does crazy shit like that all the time though lol

I saw the fight. It was boring. The whole event was boring.
The moral here is awards go to people who earn them. It is my opinion, (and others' it seems) that Sarah D'Alelio has not earned Rookie of the Year. But we will see how the vote falls.

You and I also have different definitions of a "boring fight" though too. lol Also, I don't think that only that your opinion and HammerFists saying "She sucked and doesn't deserve it." constitutes ALL "others it seems". Though I know you'd like to believe it does.
