Aoki vs. Also
Shinya Aoki is calm in his corner. He looks convinced of his abilities.
Jose Aldo doesn't look concerned about anything his opponent brings to the table.
This is the first time they meet inside the cage
And there you go! I would put my money on Shinya Aoki today.
The referee of the bout is Herb Dean.
ROUND 1
The bell announces the first round!
Aldo immediately shoots for single leg and takes down Aoki. Aldo moves to side mount, attempts full but Aoki blocks the attempt and regains the half guard position. Aldo moves back to side control and starts slamming down some vicious elbows. Aoki shuffles his hips trying for an escape, gets Aldo back to full guard. Aoki tries to roll him on the ground, but Aldo quickly defends and tries to trap an arm. Aoki quickly counters the arm grapple and flips Aldo’s leg, earning full mount. Aldo pulls him close to close the distance. Aoki throws a few shots, Aldo tries to counter, and Aoki shoots for an armbar. He has his legs across the chest, it could be a finish early. Aldo holds on tight, then rolls his own body onto Aoki’s, freeing himself and earning side mount. He hits him with a few knees, and Aoki tries to work out of the position. It’s successful and both men are standing. Aoki fakes a kick then counters Aldo’s jab with a takedown. Aoki works to side, Aldo tries to move forward, but exposes his neck and Aoki takes hold with a guillotine. Saved by the bell!
ROUND 2
Both fighters exchange kicks and body punches. A clinch, and Aoki gets the takedown. Aldo holds on tight and earns the break. Both fighters standing, looking for an opening. It’s a chess match. Aoki shoots for another takedown, stuffed by Aldo. Aoki uses his kicks to slow his competitor, Aldo checks them easily. Aldo wants to close the distance as Aoki lands some stiff jabs, but the clinch has both fighters circling near the cage. Aoki escapes the clinch but lands a stiff elbow, which stuns Aldo. He immediately shoots for the double leg and secures the takedown over Aldo. Aldo scramlbes, does a cage crawl and they are back to standing. Aoki easily slams him back to the mat and delivers some excellent ground and pound, but there’s not enough time to finish the fight.
ROUND 3
Aldo is trying to be the aggressor now, he knows he needs to finish Aoki to win this fight. Aoki seems to have better cardio in the early going of this round and dodges the strikes easily. Aoki throws a counter kick and that hurt Aldo! Down he goes, and Aoki jumps on top to deliver more punishment. Aoki grabs a hold of Aldo’s arm for a kimura, Aldo leans over to counter and Aoki immediately leaves it and takes a hold of Aldo’s knee. He’s locked in a kneebar! Aldo is screaming in pain. Herb Dean rushes to the side, Aldo taps. Aoki wins!
