These guys were both doing good damabe, but at different rates. That was the difference-maker for Shlemenko - he was doing a bit more damage consistently than Gegard. Gegard had a bit of a surge in the second, but Alexander maintained a higher damage rate and took the fight accordingly given the first major submission opportunity.
