In the next couple days, I want to overhaul how we do Camp Skills. I had a brief conversation about a core idea with GAP, and this idea got me excited about Camp Skills again, and I am hoping it will for you as well.
Core Idea
Currently, everyone has a camp, with some relatively random skills in it. What I would like to do is ditch the idea of the camps belonging to a team, and instead make the camps be regions representing 3 of their respective disciplines (for example, you could send your fighter to Thailand, where they would be upgraded in clinch-related skills.
So far, I have put together this list, and am still fine-tuning it. The more countries and combinations of skills represented here, the cooler I think it will be.
Havana, Cuba
- Punches
- Takedowns
- Conditioning (Stamina)
Des Moines, Iowa, USA
- Control
- Takedowns
- Strength
Albequrque, New Mexico, USA
- Conditioning (Stamina)
- Agility
- Dodging
Moscow, Russia
- Takedowns
- Takedown defence
- Toughness (Health)
Bangkok, Thailand
- Kicks
- Clinch Striking
- Clinch Grappling
Seoul, South Korea
- Kicks
- Punches
- Aggressiveness
Tokyo, Japan
- Punches
- Takedown Defence
- Heart
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Submissions
- Submission Defence
- Control
Dublin, Ireland
- Heart
- Aggressiveness
- KO Resistance
Montreal, Quebec, Canada
- Strength
- Ground and Pound
- Ground Game
Anyways, that's just a rough idea. A large one, but you get the gist.
Implementation
There's sort of an easy way and a hard way to go about doing this.
The Easy Way
I think the easiest way for everyone is when you send someone to Camp, you pick the destination (i.e. Brazil). Then, when I go to process the Camp Skill, I will toss the 3 skills into my list generator, it will randomly spit one out, and that is the upgrade you get. So there is still some small risk involved with getting basically the free point.
This is easiest because we don't have to wait on members to come online to process your upgrade, and I can process the upgrade itself as I process the camp-send (2 different actions that i have to split into 2 different times with our current system while we wait for members to assign a skill).
The con of this method is the small loss of interactivity we get in sending someone to a teams camp and them choosing our skill for us.
The Hard Way
Now. If we a high majority of people would really prefer the hand-picked customizations, we COULD theoretically assign regions to teams or something, and still have a human pick the individual skill. I think this is kind of messy, and still leaves us with the split issue. But if a vast majority felt strongly about it, we could go this way instead of the randomized method.
Other Small Changes
- Regardless of what we go with, I want to tighten up the way Camp Skills work. Currently, a fighter is back once they are on a card. I want to replace that with something cleaner. So once we make this change, when you post a Camp Skill-send, you'll post with it the most recently completed ManMMA sim (i.e. ManMMA 240). From now on, the person sent to camp will return automatically 4 simmed events after that. So, in this example, if I sent Ben Askren to camp now I would post "Ben Askren, to Japan, Last event simmed: Grand Prix 12. Ben would return from camp after ManMMA 244 was completed and simmed. At that time, you could send another person to camp, rather then having to wait until a card with their name is posted on it.
