Okay, so Mikey and I wanted to impliment this core idea for a while now and I think we have finally worked out a way to do it.
At the end of each season, we'll hold a Versus Tournament. The winner of this Versus Tournament can have bragging rights as "Season Winner" for that season.
After the year-end card has been posted (in this case, ManMMA 40), you will be called upon to submit 1 fighter of your choosing from each male weight class (LW, MW, HW) to participate in the event. These are the "rules":
- fighter must be male
- 1 fighter per weight class (3 total)
- NO current ManMMA champions can enter.
Then we'll put together the tournament brackets, based on a 3-fight Versus card structure. The winner of each versus, moves on to face another fighter in the next round of versus with their same 3 fighters.
Example:
Round 1, Bracket 1:
Sandmen vs. Hammerfists
Sandman (Silva, Ben Henderson, Slice)
vs
Hammerfists (Jones, Miller, Sonnen)
Lets say Jones beats Slice, Miller beats Henderson and Silva beats Sonnen. So Hammerfists then wins Round 1 and moves on to face whoever else won their round 1 versus, and so on until we have a winner. Again, using the same 3 fighters.
At the end of the tournament, we will have a TEAM be crowned season champion. Yay!
For this season, the teams that have the belt-holders at the end of ManMMA 40 will sit out of the tournament to keep an even 8-team bracket. If one team has 2 belts, then I will probably go by first-come, first-served on the order you submitted your 3 fighters. But again, don't submit until after ManMMA 40.
As an added bonus, the team that wins the tournament gets first overall pick of their new fighter in the upcoming season-ending draft. (The 4 teams that sit out will get the last 4 picks - but since its Serpentine, that's not a huge deal, really).
Questions or comments, please leave below.
