Here are the top 7 highlighted trades made before December 31st, 2012.
1. First ManMMA Trade Ever
manmma.proboards.com/thread/13/sandmen-grapplemuch
THE TRADE
To Sandmen:
Anderson Silva
4th Round Pick (Oleg Taktarov)
To GrappleMuch:
1st Round pick (Georges St-Pierre)
2nd Round pick (Rampage Jackson)
This is the trade that started it all. Via random order, The Sandmen ended up with the second pick and went to work in trying to get Anderson Silva away from Cor. It took the 2nd overall pick plus a near top pick in the second round to secure him. After his acquisition, Silva won the HW championship 4 times, defended it successfully on 7 occasions, and won the MW title twice. On the flip side of things, Georges St-Pierre was our first ever MW champion and went on to win it twice more. He has remained a constant top 15 MW fighter since the site's inception.
Winner: The Sandmen
2. Second ManMMA Trade Ever
manmma.proboards.com/thread/14/sandmen-hammerfists
THE TRADE
To Sandmen:
2nd Round Pick (Dan Henderson)
4th Round Pick (Rickson Gracie)
To HammerFists:
4th Round Pick [Sandmen] (Oleg Taktarov)
4th Round Pick [GrappleMuch] (Don Frye)
Let's be honest, the biggest takeaway from this trade is Dan Henderson who has been a maintay top 10 Middleweight for at least the last four seasons on ManMMA. Taktarov and Frye have been around, and serviceable since the site opened, but have yet to accomplish or even threaten to accomplish what Henderson is capable of with his build.
Winner: The Sandmen
3. Cannon-Sandmen
manmma.proboards.com/thread/1172/cannon-sandmen
THE TRADE
To Sandmen:
Fedor Emelianenko (9-7)
Shinya Aoki (7-9)
To Cannon:
Pedro Rizzo (7-6)
Dan Henderson (6-8-1)
Seven months after the site opened, Dan Henderson was trade for Fedor and Shinya Aoki. Fedor has been a competitive force who has yet to see his day strike the limelight, but let's face it, this was a trade that would eventually lead to the most dominant champion in ManMMA history in Aoki.
Winner: The Sandmen
4. Hammerfists and Ramrods
manmma.proboards.com/thread/1173/hammerfists-ramrod
THE TRADE
To Ramrod:
Jon Jones
To HammerFists:
Mirko Cro Cop
While it was a straight 1 for 1 trade, the immediate dividends went to Ramrod. Jones would go on to win 2 HW championships, and successfully defend his title 7 times. Cro Cop was immediately traded to Sandmen, along with a pair of fighters and picks, which garnered Brock Lesnar and Wanderlei Silva.
Silva managed to win the MW championship at ManMMA 200, and defended his title 15 times (a record still standing, despite the fast approaching Robbie Lawler). Lesnar the became a fiasco of negotiations between The Rocketmen , The Sandmen and xx - Former Phoenix Fight Club which leads to Lesnar current successful reign after many seasons of development and tinkering. The later acquisition of Lesnar on behalf of PHX was 4 points and a draft pick.
Winner: Ramrod. If Considering everything there after, it's a tie.
5. Cannon Gets Rousey
manmma.proboards.com/thread/1612/cannon-sandmen
THE TRADE
To Sandmen
1 point, Lena "Hunter" Ovchynnikova, Grapplemuchs 2nd round pick, Grapplemuchs 3rd round pick
To Cannon
Ronda Rousey
Arguably the steal of the century, Ronda Rousey is traded for 2 draft picks, 1 point and a fringe fighter. Ronda Rousey went on to win the women's BW championship, while Lena Ovchynnikova went on to be Lena Ovchynnikova.
Winner: xx - Camp Cannon
6. 3-Way of Legends
manmma.proboards.com/thread/2219/3-trade
THE TRADE
To Sandmen
wanderlei silva
(gives up mark coleman)
To ducks
Micheal Bisping (6-8)
(gives up d'august)
To hammerfists
Mark Coleman (4-11)
Laura D'Auguste (6-7)
(gives up wanderlei silva, mike bisping)
Let's see here. The Sandmen ends up with the future most dominant MW of ManMMA history, The Rocketmen walks away with eventual HW champ Mark Coleman and The Mighty Ducks gets... Bisping. While Ducks did ship out fringe female fighter Laura D'Auguste, it's still funny to see such a small trade be involved in such a big one for pretty much no reason. But hey, way to be involved.
Winner: No clear winner, but Ducks pretty much lost on this one...
7. PROFITABLE SWING FOR THE FIGHT CLUB
manmma.proboards.com/thread/2111/phoenix-fc-grapplemuch
THE TRADE
TO: PHX
Bas Rutten (9-10)
Miguel Torres (9-8)
Michael Chandler (7-6)
TO: GRAPPLEMUCH?
3 Upgrade Points.
You read that exactly correct. Future HW and Superfight champion Bas Rutten, future lightweight champion Michael Chandler - both acquired for a measly 3 points. To say Cor had pretty much no handle on anything is an understatement, but it just goes to show that anyone who was underperforming can, in fact, be upgraded to become dominant competitors as we see in the trades listed here.
Winner: xx - Former Phoenix Fight Club
