I've been thinking about the idea of a new Franchise Talent (FT) rule to the site, and am tossing it up here for discussion.
This would work as follows:
1) After the Grand Prix, a team designates 1-3 fighters to be Franchise Talent for the upcoming season (# of Franchise fighters to be determined through this discussion thread if we implement it, but it will be a flat-rate, not a percentage).
2) Fighters would be exempt from FiD for the whole season.
3) Fighters could not be sent to Training Camp for that season.
4) A fighter would remain an FT until the season ended or until they were traded. Once an FT is traded, they are no longer an FT, and the FT spot on their original team is lost for the remainder of the season.
Other possible additions to the FT for discussion:
- 1 FT fighter could be upgraded 2 points over their cap (I think it might make more sense to bring this in a bit later, when more teams have capped fighters - otherwise we are just widening the gap between the strong teams and the weak teams.)
- FTs cannot be traded unless they re being traded for other FTs or the deal includes a minimum of 5 points in return (I don;t know how this would play out in practice, but it would protect people like Rocketmen from himself...but I don't know if that is really best for the league, so I don't know - weigh in, let me know what you think - I kinda don't think it's necessary in some ways, but i think its fun in others).
- Rather than rule #3, we could tweak it to be FTs can attend Training camp, but don't miss any fights after attending a training camp.
- If we decide on 1 FT, we could go with the term Captain, instead of Franchise Talent.
Also, I went with Franchise Talent over my original title Franchise Fighter because we kinda unofficially use FF to mean "Female Fighter" here. So it avoids confusion. Type deal. Ya know?
Thoughts, comments, questions, concerns, feedback. GIVE IT!

I'm good with it and having up to 3 or even 4 (ie. 1/weight class, if wanted, as an option). I like the 1 FT fighter could be upgraded 2 points over their cap, obviously. I like the #3 tweak that Franchise Fighters don't miss fights for training camp. I prefer FF as oppose to FT, but that's because only you use FF for the women... most other folks say women or, as I do, FW when referring to the women's weight class. The only person it would confuse, off the start, is you. lol

Perhaps it's just that I don't understand, but I'm not entirely sure what the purpose is, if that could be elaborated?

Perhaps it's just that I don't understand, but I'm not entirely sure what the purpose is, if that could be elaborated? 1) It would give troubled teams less FiD stuff to worry about. 2) It would give people some decisions to make and stuff to think about. More interactivity. 3) It might be fun?

FT vs. FF is not negotiable, haha. FF in the simulator means something, on site it means something else, I am not introducing a third meaning to FF, so that is off the table for sure. and for everything else, I think all of this would make the new feature too overpowered. I was thinking more of some "either/or/or" type stuff with the "other options" stuff. We still have balance to worry about here, haha. So try to prioritize some of your preferences and we'll all see how we all feel about all of it.

So try to prioritize some of your preferences and we'll all see how we all feel about all of it. What other FF is there?! There's FW in the simulator for Featherweights... Other than that, I think you're delusional cuz not once have I seen FF in the simulator anywhere in the times that I've used it before. so i don think its bad but I would like to see it be that only actual mma legends can be franchise players so guys like micheal chiesa conor McGregor paul daley cant be used cause they aren't real legends or anything. kinda silly to have a franchise player be some dillhole no one heard of ya know??? To a point I see where you're going there man, but with the whole upgrading system we have in place, it really would make no sense to segregate it to only "Legends" as we already have fighters like Hansen, Murphy, etc. that aren't Legends but are, for all intents and purposes, what one would deem as a "Franchise Fighter"... I think that limitation on it would defeat the purpose of it. I mean seriously... by what you're suggesting, I could make Matt Serra a Franchise Fighter, yet he has a losing record and also has never won a title in ManMMA. But I can make him a franchise fighter too make him exempt from FiD because he's a "Legend"?! Does that really seem right to you?

1) I have used the simulator more than you have and there is an FF in there 2) This is not what this thread will be about - arguing non-negotiable semantics. Stay on task, and things will get done. Get sidetracked, and this idea will end up dead in the water (as other suggestions have in the past when they get buried in arguments).

It's all part and parcel because you mentioned it in the initial post, so it is staying on topic. I don't like "FT" either. To me that just looks like a height measurement... I wouldn't use that. That's just as confusing other people as FF would be for you.

That's just as confusing other people as FF would be for you. If this suggestion is too confusing, I'll retract it and we won't do anything. Don't matter to me, I just thought a change-up might be nice, but if you don't think people can handle it, that's fine too. At Phoenix's request, this suggestion is TERMINATED.

How the hell is saying FT is as confusing to other folks as FF would be to you requesting it be terminated? Oh wait... It's not. Quit putting words in my mouth. You're the one who wanted questions and feedback, then when you get exactly what you asked for, "I'll retract it and we won't do anything.". Don't ask if you're not prepared for having folks differ in opinion from you. Grow up.
