I don't think she had a beating coming... the woman's heart was in the right place... the cop totally deserves assault charges and a psych evaluation for completely overreacting but what the mother did was still in the wrong for calling 9-1-1 on something like that, regardless of what she told the dispatcher as to the nature of the call... you just don't call 9-1-1 for a non-emergency like that, you just don't... but you're wanting to give her "Mom of the Year" when she can't discipline her own kids?! And all because she ended up encountering an idiot, biggoted cop?! Not me thanks... that's a waste of police man power and resources for $10 that she could've easily handled on her own.

I think I'm misreading these comments, because there seems to be this support that the cop was right on the basis that she isn't a good mother because she can't discipline her kids.
That isn't the point.
The point is that her kid may have been doing this for a while, and it was a chance for her to make him come face to face with the police over the "crime" and hopefully nip that behaviour in the bud. It's not about mom of the year, it's about a very human thing to try. They answered the call, they said yes, this guy was a fucking idiot. Not the mom's fault, and I respect her for trying something moderately drastic. I believe she might be a single mom, so without that male authority figure, the next best thing was the police. Again, the police SAID YES AND WENT.
There was already one car there, the other one (with Mr. I hate black women) did NOT have to be there. Seems to me they went specifically so he could be a dickhead. Outside of that, everything was harmless and under control. He escalated it and now we're blaming her for calling in the first place?
CHILD PLEASE.

No... as usual, you totally take what I've said out of context and twist it around for your own BS points and conjecture.
I'm NOT condoning the racist cop's actions, at all... people like that cop deserve to be put in jail themselves. Whether the cops responded to the call or not is irrelevant... whether she's a good mom or not, is also irrelevant. It's the fact that she called 9-1-1 EMERGENCY for a BS non-emergency call that could have very easily taken up the time of the police officers that could've been responding to a REAL crime or emergency. That's what 9-1-1 is for, not for your own kid taking $10 out of your wallet. I couldn't careless what the "life lesson" was that she thought she teaching her kid... the reality is that people could very easily have died or been seriously injured because of that type of crap. Was the cop that threw the book at her in the right either? Hell no. A simple warning, fine and/or a misdemeanor charge would've sufficed... cuz instead of teaching her kid that cops are "the good guys", which was the intent, it just showed the kid that cops are fucking assholes... cuz he won't remember the ones that were joking and goofing off with him, he'll remember the jackass pig that hurt his mother and and sent him to a foster home. Was the mother more "right" than the cop? Yes... but neither was right for either of their actions.

Why is everyone saying that she's in the wrong for calling the police? She had to have explained the situation and requested someone come to do the stunt in a sort of mild version of "scared straight." I've talked to at least ten people about this and four of them said they had done the same thing for their kids, that a cop showed up and had a stern chat with them and one quoted the cop saying: "I'd rather be here having this conversation now than to spend a lot of time and resources chasing him/her down later on." Which is exactly the point. Two squad cars showed up, 3 cops were having a good time with it and trying to teach the CHILDREDN, FUCKING CHILDREN a long-term lesson and then one cunt fucked it all up. I see no blame against her, unless the phone call was a blatant lie that warranted two squad cars. she called the police when no one was in danger and there was no emergency she cried wolf anything anything anything tha happen to her was justified they coulda beat her in front of her kids at that point she broke the law callin 911 with no emergency. aint my taxes job to raise your asshole theif kids

...just. Plain. Wow. I would think as an openly gay man who has almost certainly faced discrimination in his life, you would pretty much never use words like "had it comin". i didn choose to be a gay man she chose to call the cops on her kid she had a beating comin. you call cops for no reason they have the right to call you a n***a and treat you like one. Okay, 1) you;re starting to sound like a particular...former member, so let's done down the blatant racism. Her race has NOTHING to do with your argument here, other than undermining the shit out of it. 2) The call was not for no reason, and The Rocketmen addressed all of this. I know many police officers and have family that work at OPP headquarters. PRetty much every one of them would rather speak with a child for 5 minutes than have to arrest them 12 years later, or clean up their corpses from some failed robbery attempt or some shit. I don't even know WHERE you are not understanding everything I have said thus far, in that setting a negative example for generations of human beings re: law enforcement is dangerous. FOR EVERYONE. Police, children, minorities, etc. The cops were not called for no reason, and as Mike further said, the 911 operator would have been well aware of why the call was happening. Forgetting all of that, under what circumstances should a mother be assaulted and racially belittled in front of her children? Is there ever an occasion where that has a positive outcome? It's time to set aside the ignorance and grow the fuck up here...Jesus. she called the police when no one was in danger and there was no emergency she cried wolf anything anything anything tha happen to her was justified they coulda beat her in front of her kids at that point she broke the law callin 911 with no emergency. aint my taxes job to raise your asshole theif kids Sounds like you come from some privlidge there, guy. In many parts of the world, stealing leads to VERY serious danger and very real emergencies. As a parent, I would do anything in my power to steer my children away from that, even if it meant calling the police on them. All this does is teach them the police cannot be trusted, and that there is no justice. It actually encourages young people to go form gangs as acts of rebellion, since they are seeing their loved ones mistreated by authority. It's pretty much how every rebellion and revolution since the dawn of man has come about, actually. Not something you want to keep cycling through the population.

In many parts of the world? This is North America The Sandmen... and I don't give a shit if you, as a parent, feels it's right or pertinent to call 9-1-1 cuz your kid is a little shit and steals $10 out of your wallet. Oh... that is such an emergency *rolls eyes*... you gonna call the cops now cuz they won't clean their room now? ...won't go to bed at bedtime? All of those are perfectly acceptable given that you think calling 9-1-1 for your own kid taking $10 out of your wallet... let's just make our cops babysitters now... call 9-1-1 cuz lil Bobby won't eat his peas... Fuck off already.

Right, cause beating and berating someone is what cops are for. Furthermore, as I said, since I actually know police officers here in Ontario, they all would rather deal with a child once than a criminal forever. Or a corpse.

911 is for emergencies only. If your dying cause your kid stabbed you fine. But as a parent you should teach lessons to your kids appropriately. If you can't seem to get through to your kid and would like help sorting your kid out... Then call the nonemergency number. If you call 911 you are tying up the lines that others may need more than you such as someone has been shot. Be mindful of what your doing and teach your kids the right lessons.

K, so let's pretend we agree on that, since I would never call 911 on my kid for a non-emergency (though as I said, in other socio-economic situations, if you can't get through to your kid it literally is life or death), how the hell are you overlooking the actual problem here - the violent, excessive-force arrest? As Mike said, the operator knew God damned well why the woman was calling. Should that warrant racism? Especially in front of children? No one "has that coming"; that's ridiculous.

I have nothing left to say on this matter. I guess there's obviously two polar opposite types of people regarding this topic. Might as well be Democrats and Republicans.

No one other than Byron said she had it coming... yet you're painting us all with that brush simply because we think she was an idiot for calling 9-1-1 on a BS non-emergency call in the first place, are you serious? And no one gives a shit how many cops you know in Ontario Justin... my Dad IS a cop and I'm telling you from personal experience growing up in a cop household that calling 9-1-1 for a non-emergency like that is not only stupid, but can and usually does garner fines and charges for potentially endangering the public in that manner. All stations have a non-emergency number to use for things, so too do they have officers that are designated for PR and crime prevention purposes such as that... my Dad was that guy for many years. The dispatcher should've been the one to tell her that 9-1-1 is for emergencies only and directed her to the non-emergency line, but instead, 3 different cops were dispatched to this bullshit call and unfortunately one of them was a racist prick having a bad day. Did she deserve the treatment she got from that asshole? Absolutely not, but she also shouldn't have called 9-1-1 for that either... and I guarantee you that there are cops out there that feel the same way I do, not because they're racists or anything else but the fact the the woman called 9-1-1 cuz her own kid took $10 out.of.her wallet. I honestly hope that cop gets his badge stripped and thrown in jail himself for what he did to her, but that still doesn't excuse the mother for her bonehead move calling 9-1-1 for that crap in the first place, no matter how.you try and paint it.

Topic - woman getting beaten for calling the cops. I take issue with that. You choose a front to argue with me, and you go to town on that. Topic remains, woman got threatened, berated, and verbally assaulted in front of her kids by a POLICE OFFICER without provocation. It's also interesting that the things you guys are arguing are exactly the things the racist cop said. “You black b----es don’t know how to take care of your kids … you need to call the kids’ father, not us … we can’t raise your kids … why are you wasting our time, we aren’t here to raise your kid … why don’t you take your f---ing kid and leave?” Minus some language, you agree with the racist cop. Also, re-reading the article, she called the police specifically asking for an officer to talk to her son about stealing. She did not call the police ON her son. At this point, the operator and police all knew there was no emergency, and could have responded accordingly. My wife's aunt is actually a 9-1-1 dispatcher. Dispatchers do, can, and will, talk to someone about the reason they are calling, walk them through alternatives, and NOT dispatch police for no reason at all. That is their job. The police would have been dispatched here because they were informed and available. They did not leave a high school hostage situation to talk to these kids about stealing. Also, from scanner-experience, I can also say there are lots of people who call in and say "if there is an officer in the area, could we ___" etc. Not unlike firemen rescuing cats from trees. The police are not here to make us safe. The police work for us. "To Serve and Protect". No one was protected or served here. The police failed.

@ The Sandmen: I didn't state my opinion as an afront or to argue with you... Rocketman posted this and asked what we thought about it. That's it. You took offense to it of your own accord, not the other way around. But this is classic Justin: dismiss anything and everything anyone has to say if they don't agree with you, to the letter. When the fact is that I've completely agreed with you on her getting beat up by the cop the entire time, but you chose to ignore that and take umbrage with the fact that I also believe it was wrong for her to call 9-1-1 for something that silly. You don't... good for you... but that never once changed the fact that her getting beat up by that cop was horrible and wrong. You took it there yourself when Byron was the only one that said "she had it coming"... might wanna think about that instead of lumping everyone together in that for disagreeing with you on a secondary point within the conversation; it really makes you no better than that cop when you're that narrow-minded bro.

Yes, I took issue when people started even mentioning the reason for her calling 9-1-1. It is not part of the discussion, and is victim-blaming. Like saying, "She had the rape coming - she was wearing a short skirt". It is at that point I take offense, as the crime is inexcusable, regardless of how it came about - just like rape.
