I don't know to what extent this is an official poll and to what extent it's me thinking in text format. Please just read and leave any and all feedback that comes to your mind.
As you know, mid-season is the prime time to discuss any ideas or rule-changes for the upcoming draft. It's no secret that for the past several years, more than one of you have been eagerly anticipating the eligibility of CM Punk in a ManMMA draft. Based on the guidelines we have been using, Punk is now technically eligible to be drafted in the upcoming draft. Which leads me with this conundrum...
Long story short, I am torn on whether people like CM Punk should be allowed into ManMMA. Here's why.
CM Punk, frankly, has no place on this site. The core, founding principle has always been "A please for the best of all time to compete in legendary fantasy match-ups that we never got a chance to see in real life." The point has (mostly) never been about making a freak-show farce out of ManMMA, or the sport I love. MMA is a sport, after all. It is not Professional Wrestling, where David Arquette was a World Champion, or Donald Trump and the kids from Jersey Shore were both a major part of one of the biggest events of the year.
When Del Rio was here, I felt as though he was way over the line for me, and I feel Punk will be worse. At this time, I am undecided on whether I should allow farce-fighters like Punk here. I dread booking them, and I have problems booking them - they are just a waste of a fight, and an easy win for whomever they fight. Unless they are power-upgraded, and then things get even dumber. I don't really want to be a part of a site where, for example, Alberto Del Rio is the HW champion and CM Punk is the MW champion. The site would probably die, as I would have no interest in booking or simming that bullshit.
So then what's the point? Is the point to let someone draft a novelty act they will love having on their team to lose every single fight? Will they be pumping literally 100 points into him to make him compete with real fighters? Real fighters who will NOT be getting those 100 points because someone like Punk needs them to NOT get KO'ed inside of 4 seconds every fight?
And lastly...how the fuck do I even go about creating Punk? If you saw his fight, you can attest to this - there are literally no skills I can put into him for his build - he got decimated in every sense of the word. His rating would effectively be 0 overall, with 0 points into anything...because that is what we have seen from him in his pro fighting career.
I guess that leaves me with some questions for you guys. How badly do you want someone like CM Punk here? How annoyed will you be when you don't get him, and the guy who does upgrades him to beat your Brock Lesnars, your Jake Shields, your Wanderlei Silvas, your Rich Franklins, your Fedor Emilianenkos, or your Conor McGregors? Only 1 person will get Punk...everyone else will have to fight against him.
And lastly, where does the balance of fantasy vs. reality lie for you? Would you have more fun if things stayed mostly "realistic", or would you get more enjoyment out of adding the WWE element of "CM Punk is here, also my friend fought a pro fight once in a club in East Glittertink, NJ, now he is here too" and so on? Where is the line for you? Is there one?
Please leave whatever thoughts come to your mind as we continue to think through this and discuss it as a community.
Thank you for whatever feedback you provide.
